Succession management plays an important role in the planning of all successful organisations. It becomes crucial when the organisation is facing the retirement of some of its experienced and effective leaders.

While most succession management systems are developmentally oriented, it is widely recognised that best practice succession is work-based development activity, involving underpinning skills coupled with job assignments and on the job action learning programs.
